Steering cable

When my rib had Mariner 60hp engine fitted it was offset,
now i find there is not enough space to remove steering cable.
Can I remove cable from steering wheel and pull inner cable all the way out of tilt tube, then removing outer cable.
Am not able to move engine.
Stay safe and well.
Cheers Mick.

No. The steering cable is a one piece construction - the whole lot needs to come out. To get it off is easy enough - just cut the cable close to the engine. Getting the new one in again is the challenge! Remove three of the engine bolts (leave one at the top on the opposite side the steering cable enters the tilt tube) - you should then be able to tilt the engine at an angle sideways to be able to insert the new cable. A few bits of wood to block it in place will help.
