Steering cable replacement

My tornado needs a replacement cable and steering box, as the cable has corroded into the engine tilt tube and recently the steering box has developed a fair bit of slop.

How is this done, is it best to remove the lot and buy replacement that exactly matches what came off or can it be done by just measuring up/reading off the cable length?

Any suggestions for a supplier.

It’s been ages since I last did one on my club dive boat.

Many thanks

Dave j

You can buy a full set up of steering complete with wheel if needed just get the correct length measure from nut to coupling at helm end. Plenty on ebay or from somewhere like ASAP supplies likely be teleflex or ultraflex either will do just buy the kit for your hp range eg:-

Remove from the boat and then measure the steering cable (may have the length stamped on it somewhere). Then just make sure whatever you order is the same length. Ideally try and find the same helm unit so all the holes line up otherwise you'll need to do a little bit of chopping to fit it in and maybe a bit of filling is there's old screw holes on display. Ebay is an ideal place to look.

Thanks very much for this useful information, hopefully I can get on it this week and at least remove the old one.

Thanks Dave
