So I came to fit my NFB steering today and the cable entry point is on the opposite side to the one I've taken off. What gives? I thought the cable could be fitted both sides in case the engine turns left when steering right. Are they handed or universal? I hope it's going to be ok.

Maybe post a picture but usually the cable can fit either side but you might need to swap a fitting over

Yeh I agree it looks like it's only going to fit one way but looking at the location of the shaft in relation to the gears I'd expect them both to operate the cable in the same direction with the cable installed in the appropriate fitting. Looks like one is planet gears the other external gears so the end result should be the cable goes in the same direction when you turn the wheel

I'll see what happens and report back. Found this on eBay, don't know if it's the solution to reverse it:

Edit: Sussed it. To reverse I need 2x 1/4x1" screws instead of the quick release. Not seen them, will find some.

The two screws make sense they'll go in the two holes on the right to reverse the helm. But first I'd try the cable in & see what happens. I think the two helms will work the same with the cable in the quick release side even though they look wrong

Connect your cable in with the 2 bolts and it will be a right laugh as you steering will work the wrong way. Try it!

If you use the Quick Connect socket on these boxes they will both pull the steering cable if you turn Left. You will only need to use the opposite socket if your steering cable connects to your engine on the Port side.

Finally able to close this job off today. Thanks Davie.

Minor tweak drilling a hole in the console to get the optimum angle for the cable. Much neater than before, and most importantly, zero play!
