Sticky rubbing band

Hi,

I've just bought an old Zodiac Pro II 470 R from 2001. The tubes are ok (PVC I think), but the black rubbing band that runs along them is sticky in places.

Any idea how I can clean them up down to hard rubber? Using MEK?

Cheers

Solvent will remove it but it will come back in time its the surface degrading due to uv think I used toluene or thinners last time I did one

Use scuffy pad, aka Scotchbrite pad. The red is good for some stuff, but in other brands there is a far larger weave that works better for holding glue, when removing glue. Keep it wet with Acetone or the like (We can't buy MEK), and throw them away often, by using smaller pieces cut off. Use junk scissors too, and a glass or my preference metal pan for holding the chemicals. I've cleaned lots of boats parts that way. It will gently remove the bad material. My current boat had a black moldy rub rail that was sun bleached in some areas. It looks good now.
