Not sure if you are thinking B&B, camping or cottage?? However for me the main point would be to stay as long as possible in one place (or perhaps more depending on holiday length) where the SIB could remain set up and trundled a few yards to the water... or even left moored if possible. Others will know if such places exist on the lakes.
We have done holidays where we drive to the water each day but the constant effort of the set up and take down even with an air floor got a bit too much.
So if you were camping for example this place on Ullswater looks to have ideal water access... https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_c...&v=V6HM2Ldv-VI

it would be nice to book a cottage by a lake we could just have the boat set up for the duration,
i did see on the coniston boat site they can store your boat for £10 a night. but i dont know how that would work with a sib on its transom wheels

So would it be a cottage not camping? It seems there are more options if camping... but we only use cottages and know they are usually harder to find with perfect water access.

You haven't mentioned budget - there are a few options for waterfront 'cottages', all of which should allow you to set the boat up and keep it inflated. Price could be an issue though
Windermere is busy and has lots of options for places to go / eat. Ullswater is prettier and quieter, Derwent Water is also very scenic and has Keswick on the shore (reasonably busy town), Coniston is ok.
A few shore side options to google:
Windermere
Pull wood Bay
Spout Crag boathouse
Ullswater
Beauthorn Cottage
Derwent Water
Keswick boathouse
Coniston
Bank Ground farm

Beauthorn Cottage Ullswater looks excellent for water access.... just the sort of location and launch proximity we seek for a SIB holiday. Price about right too as you are going to struggle to find something like this for under £600/wk in the Lakes/Scotland area... often nearer £800. And as we are finding out more like £1000-1200 in Devon/Cornwall.

I recommend Ullswater specifically park foot on the water's edge. You can camp there or hire a caravan/lodge the choice is yours
Speed limit yes.. but each time I go up there somehow I found lads on the water with 30+ hp ribs and a wake board??
It's a big lake to cover and takes a few hours from one side to the other.

the lakes aren't worth the hassle you could probably do most of them in a day better heading north 266 miles is only 4 1/2 hrs in a car worth it to avoid the Lake District and as said Scotland has everything you need we even take English money up here

I have to agree, but avoid June/July/August unless you want to be eaten to death[emoji57]

Often a lot better near the Coast though! ....And certainly fine whilst your AT Sea
Which is my suggestion anyway....forget the often over crowded/over regulated and sometimes busy Lakes ...and get out on the Briney!
You won't look back

It is - only downside is the steep slope from house to water. You probably need to carry everything down to water and assemble there, or launch at Glenridding and bring the boat round by water (what we did). The old couple that own it live on site and are very helpful and friendly.
Downside of Ullswater is that it is quiet. If you are into walking then great - you have Aira Force, Striding Edge and Helvellyn. If you want to do touristy things or you have kids Windermere is a better bet. Pullwood Bay apartments are expensive but luxurious - you can park at the waters edge to rig up and launch.

Great clarification Chris... so could you not assemble at cottage and take down on transom wheels?
It's also a fair point re it being a quiet area and we'd find that... but that's easy to say in my case having been going to sea for 50+yrs where the coastal challenges are second nature. Quite understand why Duluxdoggy wants a next step up from their river experience... mind you I still think a quiet estuary might suit.

It's a100 miles more for me to drive to Oban with two stops for the dog takes about 8.5 hours and worth every minute ardoran marine has cottages, slipway, pontoon and a small chandlers on lock feochan pretty sheltered and out at the bottom of the sound of kearra the you can pick your routes. For me the lakes are great but packed, expensive and no boating freedom IMO.
You could split your journey by stopping at sterling in a travel inn pub next door.
