Suitable rib for CTC, round britain 2012
Hi All,
Hoping to race in Cowes Torquay Cowes 2010, and do round britain in 2012.
Be very grateful for advice on suitable hulls/manufacturers and inboard/outboard.
Happy to look at brand new or used, Budget c. £125,000 all in.
Don't need to win, just want to take part and complete all legs safely and comfortably !

Rebay http://www.redbayboats.com/ have a Stormforce 10 with twin diesel stern drives for £90000. That'd be a comfy boat and you'd have a few pennies left for diesel.

For the CTC race I would go for a Revenger 29 with 2x 300xs outboards. It would be ok on the Round Britain as well but I would prefer something bigger and heavier for that.
Maybe a nice RING with 3x Verado 350s like Petrov just showed us.
http://rib.net/forum/showthread.php?t=30383 Good for 69kts and should handle most weathers.
the 1st will be in your budget - not too sure about the 2nd...........

This one could be your choice, twin diesel would be a better option

Thank you for the mention guys - we don't have a RIB for the job, but we are in the middle of designing a hard boat that would come in around that money (we can put tubes on it if you really want them), 3/4 canopy or open top - 34' twin diesels with either Arnesons or regular drives, small cabin with the option of a V berth and lightweight heads and galley. Projected speeds of over 70mph with the 3 litre Yanmars and ASD6 Arnesons

OK, so you're not out to win, but are you looking to be at all competitive?
The best boat for the job will depend on whether you're really planning to treat it as a fast cruise, or if you actually plan to race with some commitment but are just playing it down a bit.

No fast cruise is cool, not trying to play with the serious racers.

Would never buy it off you, as you may not race again, and you are an inspiration to loads of potential participants.
Racing needs you Barry.

Looks awesome Cookee. Will that be in the same class as Swipewipes ?
At 70mph no-one will get close to you.

With the Yanmars or the Steyrs it would be in the same class - of course they are computer predicted speeds, but it isn't just about top speed as any racer will tell you!
Our intention is to build a racer/cruiser with the emphasis more on one or the other to suit a customers choice. The 260 Yanmars with Bravo X drives or better still the XR's like Swipewipes had would be a very reliable package and still have a bed and a toilet, and capable of going round Britain as well. The budget would depend on fit out, but with an open top it wouldn't require harnesses and air supply to race and be usable as a leisure boat - the leisure version will have a big sunbed on the engine cover as well!

i think the revenger 32 with twin inboards that went around in RB08 is for sale at the moment. £100K
i know it was a bespoke build and a lot of attention to detail!
little cabin and proven ability!!!

That'd be quite an achievment in a boat with a dry weight of over 2.5 tonnes. Who's the designer?

Petter Martens is working with something we have given him - it's a long story, but that is what his calculations are telling him. The Steyrs would be a perfect engine for the class as they are now rated at 280hp each, and would give us the highest speed.
