Me to!! Have always wanted to do a trip over to St Kilda with a camp overnight on the island - one of my bucket list trips !! We should organise - a big leg but a memorable one I'm sure and the RC's would handle the trip fine !!

Would definitely be up for a ribnet trip to St Kilda - the only problem is the weather of course (as in sea state not cold...dont want to add to the scotland arctic debate!), but its long been an ambition to get out there....

Us Southerners always try to look on the Bright side! What is the Score with the Midges regarding the peak times ect Mr,P? Do they affect the Island's as bad as the Mainland?
Do Garlick, Cross's, and Wooden stakes help?

Forget all the jungle juices make sure, if you do attract them, that you bring plenty of Avon's skin so soft. It works better than anything I know because believe me if 'their' out they'll find me!!
To be honest they have not been bad for the last years. Anyway as long as there's a breeze and your out on the water you'll be fine.

Only if you use them to build a huge bonfire to stand downwind of!

Seriously tho' if you are camping, take a Tilley / Coleman fuel burning lamp, and fire it up regardless of the daylight level. The lamp will produce lots of CO2, whch midges love, (unlike environmentalists). They also burn nice & hot (the lamps!), which instantly fries any midge within about 2" of the glass. The little b*gg*rs are territorial, so once you've fried the "locals" it takes a while to rebuild the colony. Usuallty for long enough to give you a realtively calm night. If it s a windless night, I've found one Tilley will easily cover an area of about 8 or so Sq M. Bonfire has a similar effect.

It will also attract and fry mozzies too!

While we're on the subject, there used to be a brilliant blue coloured liquid midge repellant called "Shoo". It had quite a chemical oudor. I assume it was banned by the EU for being dangerous or something, based on the fact it did exactly what it said on the bottle? or does anyone know if it's still made?

(Edit; +1 Jambo on the "skin so soft")
