Surveyor

Anybody know a good marine surveyor in this area, preferably near Oban or the west coast.
I need an independent survey and report undertaken on my RIB.
Anybody point me at a good one?

I used Maitland Murray of Murray Cormack (01631 565762) a few years ago who was very good. Other guy who has a good rep is Jim McIlraith of Survey One (0141 886 5210 ), he is extremely thorough.

Best of luck, you could always get it rebuilt with a transom like mine .

Jim McIlraith, as above - does our coding and knows a thing or two...
He has been known to travel to Ballachulish now and again, so your neck of the woods shouldn't be too far ;-)

Maitland is a good guy, but quite pricey and very busy - may struggle to fit you in.

Jim is also very good, but you'll pay more in expenses to bring him here unless he has another job to share costs

Another good local guy is Alasdair Salmon 01631 740358.

Agreed. I think I've used all three over the years. I think each has their own 'interest', or special area of expertise, so it might be worth a chat with all three before engaging one. I think they're all very busy though.

Might be worth letting Martin Evans or Maitland Black at the Yacht Centre here (see AYC's about us page) take a look too.

I'm assuming that Humber haven't got back to you, which I find surprising and disappointing, having championed them for years. They're doing themselves no favours at all. Hope you get sorted soon.

Tony

They are both very good, there are cheaper out there, but you only get what you pay for.

What kind of survey are you looking for ?

Just need an inspection on a RIB transom to identify a latent defect and provide independent evidence just in case. Will make a few calls over the next week.
Thanks for the leads, sure one will be suitable.

Unfortunately, that isn't always the case.
