Survival training

This has nothing to do with my earlier question about dry suits! I am not planning on slipping off on a round the world RIB cruise.

But I have been looking up some interesting stuff on sea survival lately, and have posted a thread in the training area of Scuttlebutt; if anyone can add some views I would be grateful:

Well, I'd certainly recommend the one-day RYA Sea Survival Course to anyone looking to venture offshore. This seems to be the 'standard' practical introduction.

Aimed a bit more at the yachting community who would be carrying liferafts as there is quite an extensive practical session on using them. Also we did practicals on using flares - which was good.

I did the full sea survival course some years ago before working in the Artic for a short period. While I still recommend doing it as you will learn a lot the over-riding impression I left with was basically an appreciation of just how stuffed you are and difficult it would be to be one of the folk that managed to get off the ship. get to a liferaft, get in and finally survive until picked up.
I suppose this is not neccessarily a bad thing to stop overconfidence
