Suzuki scam

Just for the benefit of anyone who lost out to me on this ebay auction:

2008 S uzuki 250 hp Outboard Engine | eBay

Comms so far have been:

SELLER: Hi Steve,

Total price is £ 4340 and it includes postage with insurance and a 10 days return policy.

Please let me know how would you like to pay, so i can first make an invoice.

Also, don't forget to confirm your postage details.

Thanks, Duncan.

ME: Hi Duncan,

Just wanted to let you know that I haven’t received the email you refer to and would like to speak with you directly when convenient for you. If it’s ok could you send me a contact number or alternatively if you prefer call me on 07736 459754.

Kind regards

Ian

SCAMMER: unfortunately i can't use my voice due to my recent neck surgery
the idea is that i need the money into my bank account

so let me know if you can make a bank transfer or not

thanks, Duncan

ME: Hmm,

Sorry Duncan. I have a couple of friends from Belfast who are quite experienced with neck injuries if you would like to give me the address for collection I can send them around.

Of course I CAN make bank transfers as I am not a simpleton. Can you provide engines?

Ian

You gotta wonder who actually falls for these scams really don't you?

Zero feedback's a start. It's such a nightmare to buy an engine by any means. Had a 6 month wait to get my money back off
Dan Cooper
outboardmotorseurope
Cambridge outboards
outboards12 etc
(all the same person)
for an engine that never appeared !!
115 Yamaha advertised on Apollo Duck & ebay.
Then the amount of scammers on boats & outboards that never reply makes you wonder how other than visiting every reputable dealer you can get a motor! It's got to the stage I either travel & pay cash or use my credit card so that if I have a problem at lest I have a chance of a refund.
Can we have a name & shame on here as it's a great site ????

Zero feedback - yes I was expecting something like this exactly because he had zero feedback and then adding to that the fact that there was no kind of acknowledgment of that in the advert wording to give confidence to a prospective bidder. Add to that the limited info and photo's and the lack of response to questions and it was a reasonable certainty. Oh well. My best option is one that Peter (boatsandoutbaords) put me onto albeit (probably correctly) priced at 2k more.

Agree, Peters very helpful.
Put a deposit down on an engine today with Clyde Outboards. They too sound like the real deal & are nice blokes to deal with. Living in North Yorkshire 40 miles from the sea it seems that everything you want is at least 200 plus miles away !!
Fingers crossed, still I wish it was easier to flag up the robbing bar stewards though.

Small world eh crusher?

He sent me this today:

"Hi Ian,

i'll provide engine when the transfer is confirmed... i don't want to have my neck injured anymore...

so, let me know what you need for the bank transfer

thanks, Duncan."

They really ARE feckin thick skinned aren't they?

How did you manage to contact ebay? I get really frustrated with their system. I try to complete the form and it tells me I have to go through some due diligence process and wait 8 days for the item to arrive etc etc. Seems they don't think scamming exists!

Hi, I went into the item, and there is a link 'report item'
It might be different as I wasn't the winner.
Having had a problem with an item before, eBay definitely appear to not give a monkeys.
I never lost a penny but was completely miss sold the item. All they would do was tell me how to cancel the sale.
eBay definitely = proceed with caution!!
I guess for them to 'police' the whole of eBay is a Near impossible job.

Seem to be lots of scams involving out of the way places like the Orkneys where there's no chance of collecting the items & they're keen to provide photographs but seem to drop off the radar when it comes to providing any detailed contact imformation !!
Given the amounts of money involved and the scarcity of decent outboards available personally I've found it a bloody nightmare!!

Yes Paddlers. Have shown great delight and surprise with them in the past and told them co-incidentally I live in Arran and when can I get on my pushbike and view and of course they go strangely quiet then......

Most of them never reply if you ask to come & see it !! You wonder how many people get caught out?
As you may know I nearly got caught with dan cooper in Soham Cambridgeshire & he was advetising heavily on ebay where he now operates as outboards12 & on apolloduck. Very plausible on the phone until he gets your money !!!!
Most of the good stuff seems to be on the south coast. Bought a sib/outboard for the kids plus a surfski last year in Southampton last year on ebay & drove 5 hours+ to collect.
Just on buying an outboard from Clyde Outboards Glasgow but I'm happy for them to send via courier.
