T cuts and polishes

Are the marine gel coat cleaning and polishing products any different to those that you'd find in Halfords, those such as T cut and a good car polish?

What products do you use on youre ribs and sports boats?

I have just used the gel coat filler for the first time on a couple of deep scratches that I caused and must say that I'm impressed, the colour match is perfect but I am left with a couple of dull patches where it has been rubbed down, I need to get a shine back on these spots but a good protective cover on the rest also.

There have been a few discussions on this recently. I have always found that gel coat filler tends to become discoloured when buffed with T-cut (especially when using a machine). Tried using white marine cutting polishes but get same results - always seems to go a bit darker. I now only use gel (flow) coat - major pain to apply but can be buffed to a near perfect match with the base.
