HI Deana--its Dad--definately not a whale--waves and pressure exerted by following sea breached the bow and separated front tube--try and get todays edition of the National Post--front page arcticle will tell you all about it.

On return home the Crew Members of the Spirit of the Jolly Sailor have spoken as much about their rescuers and the hospitiality of the Fisherman's Mission, as they have about the rescue.
All the crew are eternally grateful and these men and women from Stornaway have not been far from their thoughts. Strong links have been forged with the rescue team and meetings have been held with the local Fisherman's Mission creating long term charitible connections.
Everything for a reason, and I'm sure this disasterous (but happily not tragic) outcome may lead to many spin off reasons!
The Fisherman's Mission put the crew in a hotel, and took the only clothes they stood in away to wash. (Paul apologises to the poor girl in reception whom brought him tea bags in the wee hours, and couldn't help but comment how cold the Atlantic must have been, as he's stood at the door in just a hotel towel while his clothes were dried! He claims it wasn't a very big towel!!!) The crew were supplied with new shoes, food and a warm welcome environment. They cannot speak hightly enough of the Stornaway hospitiality.
The Fisherman's Mission support the families of lost Fishermen. The widow of a lost Fisherman cannot claim any support from the Government unless there is proof of her man's death. Many lost fishing boat are never found.
Each year an average of 29 fishing vessels are lost. One boat every 13 days.
Our crew were fortunate to recover and send home for funds. The Fisherman's Mission is more than a fond memory for some families and they depend upon them for their existence.
For those moaning minnies that don't understand how appreciative these guys are watch out for any events linked to Alan Priddy or The Jolly Sailor where money is being sent back to Stornaway to support the good work of the Fisherman's Mission. Stornaway reps will arrive in Southsea for visit end of August.
