Can anyone give me a greater insight into P1. From the outside it appears to be something that's attempting to become the glitzy, fashionable, accessible side of powerboating .... am I correct?
How does it compare with Class 1 racing? My own understanding is that Class 1 has long become irrelevant due to it being, largely, cheque-book racing.
So, any insight or opinion would be greatly appreciated.

In my opinion relevance is in the eye of the beholder, I think that Class one has a place, but much as in motorsport P1 by virtue of the fact that some production boats are used (Supersport class) the public have more of a chance of associating with them.
I have raced in P1 and have been to several events, know many of the crews and write the race page in a magazine which covers P1 as well as Class one and National racing, so I know as much as most about P1. Are you looking to compete or as a spectator?
The rules have changed for this season, and it will make the distinction between the two classes bigger - Supersport will be strictly production boats with an absolute maximum speed of 85mph and absolutely no canopies partial or otherwise (ie no Dragon type canopies). Evolution class will be unlimited speed and full canopies are allowed, but they still have to abide by a 3.5kg per hp power limit, and like the 4.5kg limit in Supersport it will be more strictly enforced this year.
If you are interested in competing I have done some research for a couple of people, and have found quite a few eligible boats in the states for both classes. I believe that with the momentum they have that the class is here to stay. If you would like more information my email address is
