I had left the thread as I wanted to give Paul the opportunity to put the record straight. He is quite capable of sticking up for himself, and had emailed me to check his username and password so he could post a message -- I'm not sure why he didn't.
Anyway, I've left the original message intact, but merged the two threads so the whole story is here. If certain people have a habit of spreading unsubstantiated gossip it does no harm for this to be made plain to everyone
