Teleflex hydraulic fluid

Hello, is it ok to top up the steering fluid with normal car power steering fluid? It’s a zodiac rib with teleflex hydraulic steering and a 140hp Suzuki.

Many thanks mark.

You can use ATF "in an emergency"

I noticed the other thread suggested using normal hydraulic fluid from a tractor store etc. "Normal" hydraulic oil tends to be 32 weight whereas the recommended weight is 15 id imagine the reason being is lack of heat in the system and to get the most useable heat range they use a very lightweight oil in a system that wont produce any heat to reduce the viscosity.
Im not sure on the weight of atf as its intended for use in a "hot" system but susspect its likely a heavier weight oil than the 15 required but possibly not as heavy as the 32 you'd get from a tractor store
You may find a lightweight 22 or even 15 from a hydraulics specialist but its not common
Id imagine the only downside of the atf would be the steering may be heavier in realy cold conditions.

Loads of references online for avoiding ATF. After searching and looking at specs, I replaced my fluid in Teleflex steering with +LHM hydraulic fluid from Halfords as it's milspec.

Is it the correct H5606 spec?
The atf is suggested as its easy to get and manufacturer reccomended (for emergency use)
But if LHM is the correct spec then that will be just as easy to get
15 grade hydraulic fluid is relatively uncommon therefore not as readily available as LHM is

Worth a read through this thread, some good discussions repeated in many areas: https://www.screamandfly.com/archive.../t-164464.html Also compares the LHM+ with H5606...
