The All New Ribquest
I would like to let you know how helpfull Dave was at Ribquest when I was looking for a new Rib. He took me out a number of times in 2 of his Ribs, nothing was too much trouble and the quality of the Ribs is very, very good.
He quoted me some very realistic prices and knows what he is talking about. He seems to oversee everything and has his finger on the pulse of his business.
Dave is one of the straight talking guys that will tell you how it is. He certainly knows how to build Ribs and a number of people in the industry I found out have a lot of respect for him turning Ribquest around to what it is today.
If any of you guys are thinking of a new Rib then give dave a call

Yes and the only reason why is because I wanted a Rib with the cat B rating otherwise it would have been the Ribquest.
Yes I tried most other ribs and some guys like Ballistic just dont bother returning calls

this is the funny bit!!

but not as good as a redbay though even tho it is likely that they are good as each other!!
there is litterally bugger ALL between the two cats, some may argue there is nothing.
Im sure they really are as good as each other, Redbay is a household name and Ribquest is a up and coming rib manufacturer.

For what it's worth I agree with you. After reading about the 7.3/7.8 called Aquaholic on here I checked out the similar sized Ribquest at Southampton and was impressed both by the boat and by Dave, who was indeed very, very helpful. And after watching the test on Rib TV it is on my short-list. Just a bit confused by the CAT A/B argument; Rib TV certainly bounced it around (and got some air) and stated that it was sturdy enough for the man who wants to go out in tough conditions. But unless you were using it professionally would you want/need to go out in anything very much worse than on their test day? I've been out on ribs in the middle of various oceans doing MOB drills and picking up mail canisters dropped by parachute when you can't even see the ship at times (that's why a radioman (me) would be in the crew), and it's exciting, if hairy. However for leisure ribbing what's the point of taking it to the max? Remember that Bayliner that went out of Whitby or somewhere, into the teeth of a gale and all were lost?

Didn't the Bayliner manage to fall into CAT B in the UK but if you imported it it was CAT C, something daft like that.

I don't think
that a Bayliner is a real category RCD B, insofar as it should be able to cope with 4 mt waves, etc.
"Last Call" was a Bayliner 245SB and the tragic consequences of that have been amply discussed on this forum.

Tornado don't even respond to emails. Makes you wonder if there really is a recession? I've had all my quotes from Ribquest within 48 hours including a detailed specification and breakdown of costs. Can't fault them.

I appreciate Cat B against Cat C might not have any real difference in terms of what a boat can really handle. But what about from an insurance point of view? If you got into trouble with your boat in conditions/location it was not rated for would they still pay out a related claim?

It was a real CAT B in the UK, I believe its in the MAIB report that when it was imported it was classed as a CAT C.
I know this doesn'tmake any difference to the outcome but its worth noting.

I don't want to start a war, but
many (although not all) of the manufacturers I have written to were very slow in coming back to me with answers to my questions. Some never replied at all.
