The First Rib Across The Altlantic

I was a little upset at the RIBEX when the... at the Ocean Dynamaics 'on the water display' Half way through the sales pitch... I asked him who owned the boat ..... I was informed that Bear G owned it and he was the first person to cross the atlantic in a Rib..... 'and dont mind what people form a certain yellow boat might tell you'

WELL, that pissed me off no end ...... The first person to cross the alantic by RIB is Enda O'Coineen ... about 82 ....... and he sailed and motored...... and at the sime it was the smallest open boat record , as far as I know... He also maid the Guiness book of records .

Alan&co was definetaly the first Powered acrossing

I explaned all this, to the ill informed sales man, and he shruged his sholders said 'I dont know..... all I know is that bear was the first' ....... I dont think he was all there !!!!

Anyway I was with Enda in his office yesterday.. and I used my camera phone to take this photo ofrom a picture form his wall......

I've seen the programme on this trip. (Did a whole thread on BM which JF threw out with the big spring clean)...

They had to sew the leather boat in icy waters (under the waterline, from the outside)

And they met up with an Icelandic craft and celebrated with Black Death!!!!!

(now you do realise I'm talking bout the Tim Severin trip not the St. Brendan one cos the Irish camera crew went on strike on poor oul St Bren.)

Typical. They were so inconsiderate. A little bit of film archive would have saved Tim (Severin) so much trouble!!

Nice one Gavin and Tim,

The guy certainly had Balls the size of pawn broker ones.
Doing it on his own twice with no real backing took some doing and the attempt first time around was really a sib.

Us Oirsh have a few loose screws !!!!

Top Man and an inspiration

Interesting read too

Who on earth red blobbed me for mentioning Brendan the Navigator?
The theory that Brendan may have completed this voyage is taken seriously ...so much so that Tim Severin completed a successful re run to prove it was very possibly true.
Have a look : http://www.castletown.com/brendan.htm

And several other references on that Googlepage.

It's not even controversial!!! Someone out there's very sad...
