Biggles, that is why i'm asking....
Here in Greece theese ribs are considered top! in speed, weather and ofcourse prices!!!
So, we are astonished when listening that a Greek rib has bitten up ALL the rest and without any damage up to now travelling with 40-48knots on 6-7B sea....
Imagine that the Greek driver took a penalty of 300points for waiting the other ribs to come and travel all together for about 15miles for security reasons because of the hard sea, and his rib increased a little bit speed (instead of 10kn to 15kn for example) because the motors overheated on waiting!!!!!!
And everybody here is wondering....where are the famous british ribs that travel on the famous tough british seas?....
And personally i'm wondering where are the people of the ribnet forum...nobody is watching this rally of Egypt??
any replies??

And by the way nobody can say that the ribs or the pilots are newbies......
one of the pilots is the lasts year winner in your country... and the ribs are sr9,osprey,phantom evolution,bladerunner......
our pilot has come with 2-3 participations in the local Greek rally and this rib has made tests of just 10-20 hours in sea before going to Egypt......

I don't know all the details and don't want to publish incorrect information - will wait for the crews to tell their own stories.

In all, 3 legs out of 3 won by a Greek boat (a Corsair 33 made by Topline), having less than 10 testing hours at sea since production, not powered by racing outboards (just 2 common Merc 200 Optimax), manned by inexperienced crew (compared with foreign teams). However, this boat/crew won 3 first places with lap times from the second varied from 15' to more than 1 hour. Moreover, on the 2nd leg all the serious competitors (Sport Rib SR9, Scorpion, Bladerunner) abandoned due to STRUCTURAL fails because of rough waters (sea condition 6 to 7)...and your only comment to all these is that "for a start...they are NOT English but British boats"???!!! That puzzles me, to the point it seems that the outcome so far is more annoying to some people rather than surprising...

By the way codprawn, to be precise, they are neither English nor British boats...they are UK boats (so to speak in EU-terms), aren't they?

Signum, Don't rush things up. Wait and listen to their side of the story. BTW, it would be impossible to hit on a rock in shallow waters if you follow the given route on the GPS

Why not wait for the facts before jumping to conclusions.

I'm in Brighton. I can't see Egypt from here. There's no information on the Red Sea Rally web site. I don't read Greek, so the Topline web site is of limited use to me (why have they got a picture of the Bananashark race boat on their site though?).

I don't have any details of what happened to any of the boats yet. Presumably, others are in the same situation. What response did you expect to get?

Well done to the Topline team as it sounds like they're doing well. The Greek ribbers are obviously very pleased!

Does it mean that Greek RIBs are now better than all English/Welsh/British/other RIBs?

John

Hi John.

It's been a while since we last had a chat. Unforunatelly the Red Sea Rally web site has not been updated yet.

That should have been written on the first place

john kennett "Does it mean that Greek RIBs are now better than all English/Welsh/British/other RIBs?"
John no...at least i said nothing like this.
To us (Greeks) theese ribs (sr9,cobra,scorpion,bladerunner,phantom etc) are like a myth.....like fast and furius movie kind of thing.....
So, when listening to the news which says a Greek rib challenged those ribs and so far is winning...at least for me the myth collapsed like the towers in 11/09!!
And secontly to hear that in 6-7beaufort those ribs cracked.....aren;t you a little bit suprised? after all those years listeling that theese ribs, fight with the tough sea and when manos katsipis included says that Greek Aegean waters are like a big lake compared to your kind of sea!!!!

I'm in Thessaloniki. I, too, cannot see Egypt from here, preety much as from Brighton. Our sources of information are either directly (e-mail, phone) from the RIB rally organisers (in English language) or from the Topline website (in Greek language) that updates daily the race data, taken too from the organisers or from Manos and other Greek friends been there right now. The respective foreign teams' websites (Scorpion, Sport Rib etc) have no info at all on their websites.

By the way, the Banana Shark photo in Topline's website is from the official brochure of the Red Sea RIB rally, you may as well see it in their site too.

Last, to which RIBs are better, Greeks, UKs, whatever, it is actually the first time where a Greek boat competes in an international race. Undoubtedly the outcome pleases the greek ribbers so far, and anyone can draw its own conclusions.

Perhaps you could fill in some more details for the rest of us then!

"All the English boats have fallen apart and the Greek boat is winning" is interesting, but not especially informative.
