Things that bring bad luck on a boat?

Since i am fairly new to boating, and dont hang around with the locals that much, i thought it might be an idea to start up this thread, and list as many possible things that are believed to bring bad luck on a boat, so that we can print it off and stick it somewhere inside the logbook to remind ourselves what to do, and what not to do.

Four i know of:

NEVER whistle on a boat (It brings the wind.)

NEVER go Anti Clockwise (Dont know why.)

NEVER go out on a sunday (Sunday is a rest day.)

NEVER count your fish, until you get home (Dont know why.)

any more essential ones i should know?

Daniel.

Oooh, thank you, had not noticed that one.

Do you think it's okay to rename our boat, 84-86-YE at the moment, to something with a REAL name? I think i'd call it Sharky... (yes, the one from Eek the cat.)

This makes for interesting reading: http://www.ybw.com/cgi-bin/forums/sh...w=&sb=&o=&vc=1

Don't reckon 84-86-YE counts as a name though so it's probably OK for you to give her a name.

Have a look at this too: http://www.ybw.com/cgi-bin/forums/sh...w=&sb=&o=&vc=1

P.S. Can I come to the renaming ceremony?

It's bad luck to rename a vessel.

Cant i just tape all of that ceremony and play it infront of the boat, saves a whole lot of trouble...

And if i'd destroy everything, i'd destroy the Ownership Document, (It's imported from The Netherlands) I think that i am going to keep the 84-86-YE and then stick the name on with it, Registration ID 84-86-YE, Name: Sharky.

Is smashing a bottle of wine/champagne on an inflatable a good idea?
It's a waste of drink though... I think i will just peel the registration ID off, and let someone make me up a new sticker with the picture of sharky
The ID is on a metal plate that is bolted through the transom onto the engine mounting (stops people lifting up engine and going for a walk.)

Cetainly have every time I've been out with you Stu

I'm the same, the first time out on a RIB the engine fell off the transom!

Last time out on the Rib, the engine conked out!
