Thoughts on current GPS trackers

Has anyone on here invested in a GPS tracker for their RIB in recent months? Just wondering what is currently available and what actually seem to work (for example do you get false alarms), whether a self-contained unit which doesn’t require the boat battery to operate is worthwhile, and how waterproof and discreet the device is... Also what are people paying for the subscription service and does this send automatic notifications if the boat is move more than a few meters?

Many thanks.

Have a Back2You passive GPS tracker, very good and perfectly fit the needs.

https://back2you.com/products/guardi...scription-free

The GPS has a mobile number, you ring it and hang up. Then you receive a text with GPS coordinates and and a GOOGLE Maps link. Plus you can set a "movment" alert, if the tracker leaves a 100m circle you get a text immediately.

The advantahe that it is a passive one so cannot be found with GPS locators or scanners, it emits a signal only when you call it, sends you a text and goes back into passive mode.

Despite a recent price rise, Rewire Security remain the best tracking device manufacturer and service provider. Just my .02p
GPS Tracker Recommendations - Rewire?

It even sends me a text if someone uses a GPS blocker or scanner near it and last week it sent an alert that my main battery was low and needed charging. Different models have different size internal backup batteries. Plenty of choice, take your pick.

Send a message via ICQ to Phil and Jane

I’ve been using this company since 2008 for work and the last six years for a tracker on my rib. I have found their trackers to be the most reliable and fastest in a cold start up.
They are standalone fully waterproof units and the battery on the ones I use will last six weeks if the reporting time is set correctly. The cost is around 250 euro plus 95 euro a year for unlimited positions. Don’t get cheap things from China, you are simply wasting your money. The aftersales service and helpline if you get stuck is second to none.

With tracking abilities, two way communication and a dedicated emergency button I carry a Garmin in reach mini with me on my offshore and wilderness trips over here in Australia. I can even get weather forecasts for any location Im at. We have considerable amounts of area without any phone reception over here, where these units runs off the iridium satellite network.

Each of the free messages I send from it give my exact lat-long location as well as my speed and heading etc. I get my kids to take it with them when they are in remote mountain locations hunting etc.https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/592606

I think the OP is enquiring about anti-theft, hidden security type trackers.

I went for this - https://www.trutrak.co.uk/product-pa...ak-fmt100-payg

dead easy to fit, you can set up various unauthorised waypoints, or for it to message/email you with battery low, if it has exited a geofence etc... dead easy to set up. I had a small issue as was doing something wrong - emailed and they phoned me within 5 mins to sort for me. It is PAYG, so if you have your boat somewhere secure for half the year, don't pay for those months.

Wow that's the same as my Rewire DBS2's (also payg) but since the recent price hike is £1/month cheaper, and cheaper to buy. I suspect the Rewire website and mobile App will be better though. Difficult choice.
