Thoughts on renaming a RIB

Hi all, forgive me for asking a 'possible' silly question, but... Is it bad form to rename a RIB that we've just bought? A family member owned it before hand and simply called it by the manufactures name, Ribeye. I was thinking of renaming but I don't fancy ending up in DJ's locker. Thanks in advance.

I know this has been chatted about before with differing opinions.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

We never once changed the name of any family boat through my lifetime for the "luck" reason. They had some weird ones but nothing so bad there was massive reason to do so.

However I reckon you have a free pass as it just carries the maker's name.... I mean you'd not really be re-naming would you?

All depends on where you stand on the whole Good luck/Bad luck/Fingers crossed/Imaginary friend nonsense. If you think it's all a load of hokey, then rename away. We renamed our first RIB & had it for 10 years thereafter, with no more trauma than usual in boat ownership.

Is ther a play on words to be had by adding words or letters before or after the current "name"?

Ill start with;
Spare-Rib-Eye
RibEye Cap
Grilled RibEye
Blue RibEye (if the boats blue)
