I didn't hear them actually say the price but I may have missed it. I know Abeking & Rasmusssen really hold their money and the boat was truly mint but I would have thought £250,000 would have been the top of the mark. it is quite possible to buy a similar boat from another yard for about £70,000 - much nicer than French plastic and much less likely to have the keel fall off............

Yeah, quite possibly, but acting like a petulant kid doesn't make anyone look brilliant, even if it is only acting!

Anyone see the first 3 men in a boat i thought that was good as well.
Wonder if there will be another.
What about 3 men in a Rib, or even better 3 men men in a Hard Boat,
Now that should get a reaction.

But I see where your comming from.

I was under the impression that anyone has "a legal right to use the VHF Marine Bands", as long as the vessel is licensed, and your in the presence of a licensed operator.
I'm sure the 3500+ rya instructors on this forum will be able to clarify this.

Did anyone actually see what channel they were broadcasting on? If it was broadcast over a vhf channel at all.. It was an entertainment show, made to entertain, by three entertainers.. If they had stuck to the rules, it would have been as boring as f...

Few points.
Only 3500 RYA instructor's?!. Has membership of this forum gone down!
Poor VHF proceedure. Pot's calling kettle's!!
Fly-by by MCA spotter plane.
They do that to most craft in that part of the Channel. having been through there many times.
At the Dover regatta, you can sit on the Cliff's and look DOWN on the plane as he does his areobatics.
If you noticed the MCA on the radio asked 'Undina' if they could see the plane. The plane needs to be that low to clock the name on the transom etc., then radio Dover, who call the vessel, to initially confirm identification. If they said no,the name could have been changed and the craft could have other cargo...... Deeply suspicious these MCA people.
Part two on again tonight.

Just seen the last bit again. Griff doesnt mention a price for the boat at all.
I recon a private channel, like M1 or M2 may of been used. These are normally Sailing School/Club channels that use them. If you heard the conversations that go on locally, I think you could say 80% of users are not trained and can't use the radio properly, OVER and OUT!!

Great programme, very enjoyable - saw the second episode last night again.
However, it stuck me again that it was a pretty (well, extremely) short course. So I looked it up this morning. I think I've got it right:
- Start appeared to be the normal RYS start line;
- first mark a north cardinal west of Cowes - could only be Gurnard;
- second mark, a stb hand mark back towards Bramble Bank, looked like South Bramble (pretty sure it wasn't Thorn Knoll);
- third a race mark that could only be Gales HSB;
- finishing back to (probably) the start line.
I make that legs of 0.5, 1, 1.1 and 0.9 nm or 3.5 in total. Probably no more than 40-45 mins in total!
And some curiosities:
- OCS at the start... but crossing tacks with the other boat shortly after, hmm...
- Getting that big red (poled out) kite flying that easily with a novice crew on a 1 mile leg (that would only take about 6-8 minutes to cover) and it wasn't even set up at the first mark...
- Making up that much lost ground on the third leg after getting 'lost' (even with the advantage of the reaching sail)...
- And how come Griff didn't have the route set up in the GPS/Plotter (he's clearly a very competent sailor)...
Usually, one screw up on a course that length in match sailing and the other boat would have been over the horizon (unfortunately, its usually us that screws up).
Still, it would not have been nearly as entertaining to see Josephine 400yds ahead at the first mark and sail clear away.
And it was good to see such beautiful boats out together. But I think I'll let someone else do the varnishing.

Who saw Evolution?! About 10 minutes into the second episode, following the boat out of Portsmouth. Screen shots to follow!
