Tohatsu Hull?

http://www.rib.net/tohatsu/index.htm

With the race-proven Tohatsu 90 hp ELPTO outboard and a 35 gallon stainless steel underfloor tank provided as standard, the TOHATSU 6 One Design is capable of speeds of over 50 mph and has a range of up to 200 miles.
Is the bit about speeds of over 50mph true. This seems a lot for a 6m boat with only a 90 on the back. The reason I'm so curious is that the hull looks very similar to that of my new boat and I still don't know where it's coming from, only that its a major UK manufacturer.

Here are some photos of them, they look very alike.

I know, thats what I said. "similar"

I was just interested in the figures, 50mph seems quite a lot for a 6m rib with only 90 horses. Can anyone verify these figures? I'm hoping to get 45-50 kts from mine with a 135 on the back. Does this seem reasonable?

Not long to go now for your Solent, Simmons. Good luck with it and post plenty of pics!!

50 knots is really quite fast I should think you'd get 40 plus out of her easily, it might be hard to handle in a bumpy sea, but then that;'s part of the fun

If it helps, I have the 6.1m One Design with a 90 hp Tohatsu. It does 43mph with 2 adults and 4 kids and this increases to 47mph with 2 adults. Early days for me and this boat, but it is extremely dry and handles well in the rough. Great fun!

P.S. Been reading and enjoying the forum for months. My first post so be gentle with me!

If tohatsu knew that Rib international were coming down to test a rib and engine just as they start to engines into the UK (this was 98 time) then they will have made damn sure that the boat performs.

Empty the fuel tank strip any unnecessary weight (other than two fat blokes) jack the engine, stainless steel prop etc. So yes 50 mph was probably achieved on the day with a long thin hull and tubes that don't touch the water.

Cirrus welcome by the way,

Pete
