Tohatsu RIBs

6m - are these the same as Solent - Hulls, Tubes or both? Anything specific to look for, any experiences or opinions? Who makes the tubes? Are the hulls as fast as the Solent RIBs? What engine max could i hang on the 6m do you reckon?

Thanks in advance (yes i've something up my sleeve again)

Daniel, yes and yes to the first couple of questions. Tohatsus look very similar to earlier solents however the latest versions from Lee have different chines.

The Tohatsu range of ribs were built for their engines so max hp should be 140hp. The Solents have been built without being limited to one engine manufacturer so 200 - 250 hp could be a possibility and are a heavier layup to cope with the bigger engines.

Built by Porters I think, standard marine ply and glass, tubes by Henshaws. Couldn't find anything worrying about the build but did see an early blue Tohatsu with merc diesel with small transom cracks, light build heavy engine perhaps.

Very fast ribs, Rib International clocked one 6m rib at 54 mph with 90 hp and my 6.5m did 40 mph with 90 hp. However there is a trade off and they are not as "sea kindly" as say a Ribtec or Osprey. That said it suits most owners needs and does mean the hull is an economical or easily driven with quite small engines.

Yes I would certainly have another for the performance, if the price was right.

Pete

You're gonna need a lot of lifejacket refills!! As if the Opti 150 on a 6 metre wasn't enough be sure to wear your kill-chord now! (bloody lunatic!!)

gimme back my trailer wheel and I will give you back your Sister!

I Can understand you not wanting me to drive your boat, it is hard to deal with when someone sets a high speed on the GPS that you can never quite reach!
