Top Gear

For anyone who likes boats and boating you must see BBC's Top Gear programme, I think its repeated on Tuesdays.

I know its a car programme but trust me!

Laugh? I thought my pants would never dry!

Given that it was a fresh water lake and one pressumes they whipped it out of the water with a crane pronto, the engine could have been saved Nes Pas?

Irrelevent - what do Honda care about losing 1 engine in the name of some great publicity.

I was running when it flipped - it's a 4 stroke so chances are bent valves and conrods - still I bet they will rebuild it pretty quick - will soon be back on a Cougar racing boat!!!

I reckon a smaller engine or the correct use of trim would have made all the difference.

Yeah was still running and in gear!! He was doing the right thing trimming it out to try and stop the bonnet submerging, it would never have planed though, not with the drag of those wheels.

If you looked closely they removed the engine before turning over
It had suddenly gone when clarkson struggled on after it had gone over
Dont blame them !

I did think that actually at the time as you would expect to see the skeg and prop poking vertically into the air when the truck was upside down, although there is no deniying that it got wet though, as it shows the water level half way up the cowling.

I'm not sure at which point you chaps think they stopped the procedings to extract the motor, coz it looks very clear to me that it went over complete with motor.
If you look closely, you can just see the skeg. remember it was maounted pretty high on the transom...I mean tailgate!

I reckon thats a shark
You might be right, although towards the end of the video, when they are closer to the pontoon there is no sign of it. However as you say it was mounted high and it was trimmed out a far way, the stern/ tailgate was lower than the bonnet anyway at this point when it was inverted so this may explain why the skeg can't be seen.

When you watch the video, I think it can be seen reasonably clearly.

As I say, there really isn't any point when the camera stops rolling, and I can't begin to imagine how they'd have recovered it. I think there's no question that that baby went down running. You can see exhaust bubbles behind the motor as the cowl takes a last look at daylight....bent rods??..JW?

Personaly I loved it, thought it was great TV but not sure how you would justify that to the Commons Select Committee when debating the BBC License Fee!!!

By far some of the funnest TV I have seen in a long time.
Well until I watch Lee Evans last night!

I think if Richard Hammond is spotted at a boat show in the future a conserted effort should be made to mention his white teeth!!!

Top Gear just gets better and better!
Anyone ordered any Doggles yet?

Best regards

Well, there is only one way to find out.....

Regarding the missing engine on the Toyboata - perhaps it fell off. BF225 engine mounts appear to be made from recycled milk bottle tops
