Tornado 5.3 comments

Hi
Any comments on the Tornado 5.3 . Build quality ect . I was looking at one of these second hand . Size wise and seating wise it suits the only concern I have is that the tubes aren’t Hypolon . They are pvc or polyurethane I think . Are they as hardwearing or easy to repair as hypolon ?. Anything to look out for in particular when viewing ?. My preference is a Ribcraft but not easy to find used ones at a reasonable price .

Thanks

We have had one since new at our sailing club and i really can't beleive how well it has aged.

New in 1999, reengined 6 months ago.

It does 50 hours a year (not a lot) but is not "loved" like one would look after their own boat.

Handles the sea suprisingly well for a small boat.

Underpowered with 3 people and a 40hp.

Tubes have been faultless.

tornado

hi,
I ran a tornado for work for a season, it was superb, the tubes don't fade, they dont scratch so easily and birds mess does no harm at all, repairs are not as easy as hypolon allegedly but we have people here who can do a major repairs if need be and I'm sure you could find someone local if you had to otherwise its the usual dry it off and stick it on etc!!

I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

This one is around the 10 year old mark so its good to hear yours are still
like new after 11 years . I have always been impressed with the Tornado hull.
Will have to go and have a closer look .

Thanks
