Forget sitting anyone forward of the console, unless you intend to travel very slowly in only flat water. Trying to keep our teenage kids on the 'suicide' seat was so hopeless that we boat a bigger boat with enough jockey seats aft of the console for us all.

we just went from an avon searider 5.4m with a 90hp opti, up to a 6.3 Humber Ocean Pro with a 175hp opti as family has grown. Fantastic sea keeping, this sunday proved it off north wales. Seats 6 and the double console protects from the wind etc may be worth considering. I can't fault it. You can get a full rig with all the electricals, lights trailer the lot from Ian sharlot Humber Specialist at http://ribs4u.co.uk/ has a nice blue and white one with a 150. We just bought one from there with 175and service was excellent. Check it out, right in your budget.

I suspect that having the console that far back on a 6.5 would screw up your handling, particularly with just two up. From my experience, kids of 10 are quite capable of looking after themselves on jockey seats behind the driver.
Since this photo was taken, I've put a padded seatback onto the front of the console and the padding has been substantially upgraded to both locker seats. Ribtec whinged like crazy about fitting the handbar for me but over the years these have proved to be the most exciting seats on the boat.
A further advantage is that when trying to make progress into biggish seas, a teenager can be despatched forward onto a locker seat as human ballast to bring the bow down. My only regret is that it took so many years to find a use for them (teenagers, that is ! )

With 140 litre tank under the console and bench seat in front, boat handles beautifully. No problems with the bough being light. And as the other member says, you can always stick a teenager or foolhardy person on the bench seat. (innovative bar by the way)

Paul. This is the original post to which I was offering an opinion. Your boat looks really well thought out and with that set up, I'm sure she does handle really well.
Russ. My original concept was more towards the kind of bar that goes across your midriff on a fairground ride but this is what Tim Wilks eventually came back with and it has has proved excellent.

Im sure there are many questions like mine but to my defense I have used the search function with to many results to even know where to start.
Anyway, Im looking for a tough rib... with that I mean Im interested in a rib that is seaworthy... Im less interested in looks, just something reliable (if it looks good thats ok as well).
We are a family of 5... me, my wife, 1 upper teenager and two 9/10 year olds.
Is it correct to assume that something around 6.5 meters would be more then enough for us + occasional company?
I feel very inclined towards a British rib as I get the impression they in general can cope with tougher conditions then lets say the average Italian rib (I might be wrong though).
How flexible are the makers in terms of layout?
Having children I would rather have the console in the back with good view of the passengers in front of me.
So... any recommendations?
It has to be something tough... think in terms of rescue/patrol/military kind of grade at a reasonable price.
I really dont need flashy sofas and leather sunbeds just a good reliable transportation that could take me home on a bad day.
Budget? Between 20-30,000 new or used.
Thanks
