Simple answer to the question posted by M.Thornton: FVUCK YES

Its called a Bollinger and its designed and manufactured entirely in the USA, from raw material sourced in the US.

https://bollingermotors.com

I already have a down payment for their first deliveries.

+ Portal Axels
+ Water proof battery compartment
+ Low range
+ Adjustable suspension
+ A face that y’all can relate to (now that a former colony of yours owns, axed and butchered the venerable Landy).

Don’t get me wrong, I own and operate an American made Twin-Locked V-8 Diesel with 500hp /1000 lb-ft. But the question was not pitting the most sophisticated Diesel vs Electric; it was asking about a capable electric vehicle. I’m pointing you in the right direction. If we want to see cool shit being offered, lets put our money where our mouth is rather than piss on the obviously useless alternatives.

As for Diesels, I can’t help but offer my view of the all time best:
On land: 2-stroke Detroit Diesel
On Sea: 2-stroke L. Gardner and Sons
(both with mechanical fuel injectors of course)

Take it easy

perhaps I'll add a few pics

As the petrol and diesel comes to a sudden Death,Hybrids will kick in until Elon or the Japs come up with at least a 200kw lithium iron EV,Or we increse current Lead Acid Batteries output so they are on parr with LI Batteries less volatile and more user friendly than LI cells RND is currently flat out with this new tech as soon as it unfolds you on rib net will be the first to know

I’m not sure a 200 mile range (not towing) would be what the OP had in mind... might almost be OK if you could be sure of being able to plug it in when you go out on the water.

Show me a sensibly priced electric vehicle that can tow a 2t boat 350 miles with one 15min refuelling stop & I’m interested. Until then it’s back to the dinosaurs.

I would never argue for an electric if a diesel alternative exists.

Diesels rule, even after the fact that idiotic legislation has weakened their fuel economy on account of forced exhaust gas re-circulation and auto re-generation (drive-to-clean)

As to the question of a capable electric vehicle, I believe that the Bollinger is the only functional (for our purposes) electric vehicle out there. It’s available for purchase in a few months time.

Given the incentives we have over here: (a) ability to drive in the carpool lane without others in the vehicle, true for all electrics (b) huge tax breaks (c) subsidized charging stations everywhere along the West Coast (d) 0% down payment, etc. Why not?

But, if y’all are honest with yourselves, more than half of you thought: Not half bad, not half bad at all…

Good point. It's coming though, and sooner than you think. The charging infastructure needs to be put in place (and I don't mean Lannnndaaan) and for manufacturers to agree on a common standard regards plug-in chargers.

Wife has had her BMW i3 hybrid for two years now. Pleasure to drive (a little scary to DIY service), but range is pi$$ poor, but it does what it needs to do, so its part of the family for just now.

If anyone is looking for used batteries the Williams FE racing team apparently have a warehouse full of them that they're waiting to slip out to "landfill" because they can't be recycled. But we are keeping the youth of the Congo in gainful employment....... (Sarcasm)

And just before I lock the thread for straying into politics I’d probably best suggest (for balance) that your serious eco warriors aren’t advocating simply replacing diesel with electric but advocate changes to lifestyles and behaviours to bring about long term change. Electric vehicles are for middle class eco warrior wannabes to drive past the local option to go to Waitrose to buy their organic vegetables without any plastic around them.
