A tentative enquiry from me too please. Will depend on the price however.

One thing. If you disconnected the power from a hard wired unit, will it switch off or run on internal batteries and for how long?

Mine continues to run for 'about' 3 days. I have noticed it depends on temperature and how much it texts you - but at least 48 hours if cold and 'used' a couple of time a day.

The other thread seemed to imply about 60 quid. At that price I think I would be interested too. If its up at £100 ish then I'm probably out as the risk isn't that bad up here.

I thought Pete was saying 48 hours?

At £60 I'm interested as well, if we fit them ourselves does that mean we can move it on to another boat if we upgrade at some point in the future?

Very interesting...

have emailed them asking for a price for 10 units and delivery to 1 UK address.
anyone up on the customs rules about this stuff?
I know personal goods bought abroad have a £350 limit before attracting duty and VAT. Maybe we may have to split the order here...?

Is it not £18 the duty threshold for goods coming by courier / post? Are you thinking of the limit for stuff you buy on holiday and carry back on your person?

it might be a case of negotiating the bulk buy & having them shipped individually from China.

I moved mine from one boat to the next , they are about 2 inch sq black boxes so easily hidden away inside consoles or battery boxes etc and look very much like the black boxes that are in lot of looms on boats nowadays.

My experience is 24-36 hours when running on the internal battery.

A few points which need to be taken into consideration when you're hiding the tracker somewhere discrete...

1. The Xenun tracker in NOT waterproof. Easy enough to make your own provision for this though.

2. The hard wire charger is via a mini usb...you'll need to make sure the tracker is securely mounted and that the usb is taped or similar in place or, at least, check it's still connected after you've been wave jumping

3. Obviously, the tracker needs to be able to 'see' the GPS and GSM signals Having said that, I really struggled to find a place on my boat where it couldn't see these signals. In fact, it can still see them when my boats in the garage and when the loft above it is full of the usual family clutter and crap. Just saying test your location before committing to it.

4. Choose a PAYG SIM from a provider whose coverage is strongest in the area you'll be keeping the boat most of the time. Forget brand loyalty and test it regularly...some SIM's lapse if left unused even if there's credit on them.

Hope this helps...

Correct. Anything with a declared value of over 18 quid (soon to be dropped to 15) will be charged VAT and import duty.

I believe David at Xexun has sent commercial samples before now, these would have a zero value from the point of view of duty.
