Great shame.

Tight one. It's such a simple little thing but that killcord is so important.

I don't mind being regulated if it helps reduce these sorts of accidents, in France you need an ICC and if you're caught going over the speed limit within 300m of the shore then it's a €1000 fine on the spot, at least that's how it was 10 years ago.

Just on local news with a video of it out of control. It was this Cobra pictured with Yam 300 4st. Looks calm conditions and the kill cord was in place on the Rib, hanging down. All 6 persons thrown from boat then run over, very sad.
Shocking if all this has been caused by not wearing a kill cord, one of 3 incidents in this area within the last 6 months too

Being regulated for things that you should do is where regulation should be. And indeed should have been.
Retrospect and hindsight.
Unfortunately for whatever reason a family has lost some key loved ones here.
Let's hope those that survived recover enough to rebuild what they can of their loss.

This smacks of plenty of wedge, short on any kind of boating experience. Rock/Padstow is 2nd home central at £1-2m a pop. A £40k rib would be a small change purchase to some of these guys.
We get similar parties coming out of St. Mawes, tidy boats awash with wives, kids, dogs and picnic hampers. The boats get rammed up the beach, a noisy base is set-up, the teenagers then go off wakeboarding behind the 300hp monsters.
I may well be wrong on this one, but it has the hallmarks.
Headline story on ITV national news- A 51 yo Father from London and his 8yo daughter killed. Others have received life changing injuries. Just gut wrenchingly sad.
It was a Cobra with a 300 Yam, kill chord still attached.

It may be, but it may not.
Could just be an unfortunate circumstance. We know how the papers and news agencies are............speedboat etc.,

Let's all maybe reflect on human impact of the immediate tragedy, and then learn what we can when the facts are known...

Boat name is Milly. Thankfully they don't appear to be ribnet members-at least, the boat isn't listed.

Terrible news.
I have a similar boat and have been out in some pretty nasty stuff, I can not imagine how you could make a boat that size react so violently to throw 6 people out. The hull is very forgiving and in three years I haven't noticed any catching, bow steer, or other nasty habits. Maybe trimmed in, too fast and an awkward wake? We will have to wait to find out.
Tragic that simply wearing the kill cord would have avoided loss of life. Thoughts are with the family.

Very sad news indeed. It sounds like the kill cord either wasn't being worn, or the switch failed. I hope and pray that the injured get well soon.
