Transom fun
When I fitted the last engine to 'The Nashers Revenge' @15yrs ago I had to build up the transom to take the XL shaft DT200EFI I'd purchased.
The Transom had previously been cut down and the old engine was being swamped when coming to a stop, so an XL is the way to go anyway.
I did this using an Aluminium plate either side - 15mm on the outside, and a 2x4" box in the middle bedded down onto epoxy and with sleeves where the bolts passed through.
I knew I'd have to do some repairs before I fit the 225 Opti I've purchased, and wasn't looking forward to seeing what had gone on over the years under those plates.
But actually, considering the hull is now 24yrs old, it's not too bad.
The laminate appears to have separated from the timber in the areas that are Black, but despite it looking terrible, tapping all over and drilling some small test holes shows it's solid elsewhere and even in the black areas the timber is solid.
I'll cut the Laminate out in the Black areas to access the timber, but it looks like it's going to be a case of stabilising and replacing sections of Timber then putting some new laminate over the top.
I've even probed with a scriber down all the bolt holes, and the timber appears solid all the way through.
I plan to do away with the box section and inner plate when I put the Opti on and just bolt the top mounts through the 15mm thick plate instead. with a spreader plate on the bottom mounts.
