Used RIB prices

Thanks for the add to the group. Is it my imagination, or are quality used RIB prices really strong at present? Is it just seasonality? There's a used 7.4 on RedBay for £45k!

Time of the I guess and weather. Not so easy to sell a RIB in January when it's snowing but come July when it's 28 degrees out, much easier.

That RedBay 7.4 is a very fine boat :-)

I think there’s also the fact that the cost of brand new boats has gone up a lot.

We bought a brand new Stormforce 6.1 in 2015. I enquired about the price of a new one this year and it had gone up more than 45%! ( More like 50% if you consider that the std price doesn’t include electronics any more).

It’s not just Redbay either. I enquired with Ribquest and it’s a similar story (though their oblique pricing structure make a like-for-like comparison a bit more tricky)

Consider also: that 7.4 is coded.

New build prices also vary depending on how busy the builder is.

The boat in question is dual coded in the UK and Rep. of Ireland. Coding in Ireland is expensive. It also has two Scotseats and two removable pods - these will have steel on the deck to hold them. All in all there's a lot of stuff squeezed onto that 7.4m - like way too many seats IMO

My gut feel is there are fewer highly desirable ribs on the market, that in itself drives prices up. There does seem to be some cheap dross about too.

If the factory has a strong order book for new boats, and its going to take a long time to get a new boat - it makes very tidy second hand boats look very attractive (i.e. you'll pay more) if you want that particular model/brand.

My observations were based on printed price lists from both builders for ‘base’ models. Admittedly they aren’t actually published anywhere as such so they could be subject to amendment without notice.

Ribquest (despite what their website says) said they’d only build either a Supersport (min size is 6.5m) or a bespoke >8m (superyacht tenders etc)

This is also true. I’ve been keeping my eye out for 6.5s and 7.4s and there’s very little around that isn’t very elderly ( and even then not much).

There’s no indication on the ad of how old that one is but a brand new one is going to run you into the mid 60s with a DF250, and that’s before you start on the options....

I heard redbay 2018 order book was full by roughly end of last year, so maybe long lead times now for some boats.

If redbay are busy then the other big ones are likely to be in a similar......wait for it....Boat!

In which case 45 seems quite reasonable if it well looked after, engine hours prolly high if commercial but may well be that lots of those are at low revs/idle. I'd have a look at it if I was in the market.
