Air Search called out to investigate man overboard
Channel Islands Air Search aircraft Lion's Pride was called out by Jersey Coastguard yesterday afternoon to investigate a possible man overboard.
They had been alerted to a partially submerged rigid inflatable boat (RIB) near Des Ormes reef between Jersey and Sark by a passing yacht.
St Peter Port and St Helier lifeboats also joined the search, which covered an area of approximately 25 nautical miles.
The RIB was identified by its Jersey registration number. The owner when contacted, was unaware that the boat had been removed from where it had been overwintered ashore.
A search of the aera was still conducted and because the boat had been launched without the knowledge or permission of the owner, the Guernsey lifeboat was accompanied by a police constable.
Search and Rescue then established that the vessel had been deliberately vandalised and left to sink.
The police constable found no evidence of further criminal ativity. The vessel was hoisted onboard the Jersey Tug Duke of Normandy before the operation was stood down.
