VHF/DSC courses Hull (East Yorkshire area)

Hi
I am looking/asking to see if there is anywhere that is running VHF/DSC (SRC) Radio courses in my local ish area.
I can only find courses being run in either Southampton, Wales or Scotland.
Seeing as the course and certificate is mandatory in using such equipment, I find it astonishing that there aren't courses run the length and breath of the country at some time or another.
Thanks for any help
Ian

Rya website should point to a number of providers.

Some will be yacht clubs etc and may only do one a year but may be cheap.

Note course gets longer next year so will cost more

Once a year? Plymouth powerboat school runs VHF training courses every day.

HOTA (on Sutton fields) run them but I'd recommend CatZero on the marina as they're about half the price and you're supporting a local charity.

Cheers, glad I've just read this as in morn I was about to book through HOTA as I enquired last week but the price (£155) made me shudder.
As I have only just got into Sibbing (been launching from Hornsea where they're happy with a mobile for Comm) I've been in 2 minds whether to do the course and tbh when I was quoted that price it almost made my mind up not to bother.
Have you got a contact number for CatZero and is there a website or any local contact details please.
Thanks
Ian

Just to add for anyone in my area, Hull, East Yorkshire, I took Dry Doc's advice and rang CatZero (very worthy charity) and got myself booked in (£55) then when complete (and hopefully passed) £30 to RYC for the licence/certificate.
This is a whole lot better (and in line with most places) than HOTA who wanted to charge £155.
Once again, thank you everyone for your help.
Ian

yours in anticipation
Ian

Thank you ppl,

hope I get a better response if ever I need to use my VHF radio than I've had to me requests for help and advice on here since I've been a member!!!!

Sorry to sound a bit sarcastic in my post, but I've found ppl very reluctant to be of any help.

Thanks anyway

Ian

what was unhelpful about the replies you got in this thread?

I hope you aren't expecting that if you ever need to use your radio to call for help and there is not help nearby that the magic rib.net fairy will magic up a helicopter or whatever for you... ...there will be less VHF courses up norf' as there are less people using the water. You've had several suggestions and a reference to the RYA website which is the conclusive way to find any approved courses...

Ian

Sorry about being a bit late to reply to you on this one. As somebody noted above, there are a few RYA places in Hull. Also in your area look at Filey, who are always very active with training courses for powerboats, including the RYA radio course.

regards Peter Bryson

As another northerner, I am pleased to see that you just went "OUT".

Had you gone "OVER AND OUT" as was suggested you probably would have failed your course!
Anyhow- all the best and I hope you pass

regards Peter Bryson
