Have a look at the RYA website, it tells you were all the training centres are.

RYA web site...

Although it's irritatingly slow, they do training centres by region which is helpful.

Check out Dave Mallett's Wavelength Training www.wavelengthtraining.co.uk if Blackpool is near enough.

Have you tried

www.northstarsailing.net They have a course running near Manchester on 18th September. Did mine with them in May this year...computer simulators, very good. Cost around £80 if I remember.

Send a message via MSN to MeMe
How about a trip......

....to Abersoch, N.W where Jono Gorton is based (Phwheli actually) with Professional Powerboat Training. He has a cracking school, is a real decent fella and offers a decent deal £$£$........ I may even join you and I bet we could get one or two others involved as well whilst mixing in a bit of ribbing.

Listen to VHF

Maybe a stupid question.... but I know that you have to have your qualification to use a VHF radio, but can you listen to one without your qualification?

No, you only need the Licence to carry one (fixed or handheld), but beggs the question Whats the point? you may just as well "GO the whole Hog" and get the certification and use the radio for two way communication.

Regards

Brian

Yes, you can listen, and you can make distress (only) calls.

Agree with above, however you still need a licence on the boat to carry the radio, even if your only listining, this is a different licence to the Certificate of competance.

Regards

Brian

You can also use M (37a) & M2 without an SRC of old VHF ticket.
Hopefully the charter boat will have a licence for a fitted radio, which will alow you to listen only to other channels. Check that there is a "Tax disk" showing outboard on the port side and it is in date.
