Volunteers wanted (East Kent)

The Thanet Maritime Volunteer Service are after some volunteers, initially to help out at the Margate Airshow (Jun 16 & 17) but also to form a permanent unit.

If you fancy it please get in touch,
Martin

Be careful on this one.

As soon as anyone, even a volunteer, starts diving on behalf of an organisation, the HSE will need to be involved, and you will need appropriate insurance etc. for both the dive contractor (i.e. divemaster) and the people involved. This is not an easy step.

HSE are unlikely to accept "leisure" qualifications and will want to see commercial dive qualifications for all involved.

A group locally had very large problems when they tried to add a dive team to their lifeboat crew. If you need some advice, talk to Ken Pink down at Gosport / Fareham Insure Rescue and he'll be able to advise you how they run their setup.

It's not all doom and gloom though! Im a member of the Norfolk Broads branch of the mvs. They provide a rib to cover the Lowestoft air show. There are hoops to jump though but it's possible!
