Water Ballast System

Hi guys

I got my new (to me) Avon 310 centre console down to my boat in Spain.

All is well, just a quick question, the rib has 2 drain bungs. One obviously for the deck, but the other is a couple of inches further down.

A guy on the dock said that this rib is fitted with a water ballast system...can anyone shed any light on this...ie, is he correct, how much water does it hold, should I run with the plug in or out..the same guys stated running with the plug out allows it to empty on plane.

Any suggestions?

My guess is one for the deck one for the keel which might also drain the anchor locker flooding hull usually has a hole at the bow to allow air in fast

If it’s a Rover 310 it’s a void drain for water that gets between the deck and hull (through console fixings etc) not a ballast like the SR range

Those models DO NOT utilize a water ballast system.

This was the one...I am assuming its a Rover 310, but not sure as it has no tag.

Yes it’s a rover no ballast!

No ballast system on this model (only the Avon Searider range which is 4m+). Bottom drain is to drain any water that gets in there - remove when the boat is out of the water.
