I had similar set up, but with the 100HP so bigger block. I reckoned 1,000kg all up.

i got 5.3 r/c but mine is two seater inline with honda 100hp (166kg ) ,all weighed at 825 kg ,so more seating + fuel willl be min 975 kg ,
personally i would do your sums for a 1300kg trailer ,and keep your options wider !

what sort of car are you looking t - it might well have loads of capacity anyway. As Orwell boy says, 1300kg capacity will give you a fair bit of safety margin.

Jeep
I have a Jeep Wrangler JK 2.8CRD 2009 4 door rated at 3500kg, but for some strange reason some years of the same vehicle are rated much lower, I am looking at a 2015 with a 950kg rating, feel it must be a mistake ?

Ha ha ,this is rather strange ,i have trod this exact path (and now have a r/c 5.3 ),and its recorded on this forum somewhere ,2015 i bought one of the last defenders with 3.5 ton towing ,while i was having the deal i was outside the showroom on the phone to a jeep dealer trying to resolve the towing weights issue as i fancied the wrangler for a change ,they confirmed to me the jeep published figures were correct and i sighned for the defender ,the jeep figures are horendous
outcome is if you need a bit more towing on the jeep you have to buy the axle plus model ,but that then bumps you into a higher road fund liscence band
sorry i cant spell De ja vous !

hmmmmm
Thanks for that info, funny I was just reading about Jeep axles and getting close to what you have just explained, love the fact you can only find out about car axles on a boat forum ! thing is they are built like tanks weigh nearly about 2t and pull like a train makes no sense, seems my 2009 might be staying.

Assuming you have the same services as Ozz, you can weigh your boat at a weigh bridge or hire "Load Cells."
A load cell is a flat scale you can put under each wheel inc. jockey wheel and total the weights.
No guess work.

Best bet is to take your setup normally loaded to a public weighbridge.
Removes any guesswork & might be something of a surprise!
Did this with mine some years ago. IIRC cost me a £5 & I got a printout of the weight which I keep in the car.
Quick Google for 'Portsmouth area':

That is correct, Jeep actually spec it at 2000lbs which is a little less than 1000kg
Remember that around that time jeep went A bit green to comply with worldwide emission specs etc, so went over to lower capacity petrol engines, the days of the standard jeep 5.7L hemi and big diesels are long gone !

Not sure if this was a "Chrysler" thing.
Back in the day I was trying to avoid going down the SUV/Pickup route to tow 2 Tons and one of the options I looked into was a Chrysler C300. Same thing Max towing capacity 1000kg.
The only two saloon options at the time was XJ8 and BMW 7 series.
XJ8 complete with "Nikasil" liners bought with 42,000mls for 6K. ran over three years up to 122,000mls at £300-£400 a year on servicing & repairs (excluding tyres) no major problems what so ever and sold for 2K with a years MOT.
