These've been trialled for regular bus routes crossing the Clyde I think?

You are right - but the end decisions seems to have been to replace the big ferry with some smaller aluminium landing craft - I suspect they are considerably cheaper than the £750k boatbus.

How does this affect other DUKW operators in this country and in others?

It is a shame, but given there will be passengers likely to bring lawsuits after last week, it was only a matter of time.

I've wanted one of those since I was four years old!

That wiring! Those repairs! Everything!

I wonder what the expected life of those were when they were built? A few weeks? A few months?

I can't believe they were allowed in the water, they're as rotten as a peach.

I skim read the report, and can't believe the tours continued to happen. Those old vehicles are clearly failing. We have a few land/water tours here in the US and it amazes me how rough of conditions they go out in. We were sailing healed over near one of them on the San Francisco Bay.

I can't believe they were allowed on the road, let alone to get wet.

Pretty shocking stuff, such shonky repairs, dodgy wiring, you name it - they look like heaps of junk.

On a lighter note, could these be built as new vessels with similar looks but "modern built things" with low maintenance, there is obviously a good market for this type of craft

Is that a common word? I learned it from an Australian, and have been spreading it across the USA ever since.

I don't think this one is going to sink and turns it into a RIB

Here is a photo I took on the San Francisco Bay of our local Duck Boat Tour. It was pretty calm that day.

Yes. The Windsor Duck Tours use purpose built DUKWalikes

Yes. There is/was a company in Ireland who invested heavily in designing a new amphitour vessel/vehicle for the European market. They decided to get it "passed" in Eire first, as we have very strict regs (see the Vikingsplash duck below in Dublin). The DOT team messed the builders around so much that they jacked the whole thing in. This is the same DOT who won't code an open (non-weather decked) go more than 3 miles to sea. Statute miles at that
