Nope, not had the pleasure But after 27 yrs of marriage & raising a daughter, I've managed to glean limited, but sufficient understanding of the inner workings of the female brain to know that tea & cake beats cold & lumpy any day of the week.

streets ahead of me PD, 30+ years for us n I've not a clue where to even look for the inner workings of the female brain, but I'd agree that tea n cake seems to be the answer to most problems, especially anything to do with ribs

Just spotted this thread and the references to the weather reminded me of being in there last summer. I took a screenshot of the forecast because I didn't think anyone would believe me considering the time of year. The location on the forecast is the closest weather station to Ballachulish where we moored for a night,we only stayed one night as the weather wasn't looking like getting much better
I bet it's not that much colder this time of year!

Summer 2015 was a swizz - the summer that never happened. I really hope this season is better. I know that the odds are identical, I'd just like a bit of nice weather....
Pls?

Yup..Ballachulish area is around those temperature at present. I wonder if you know Sgorr Donuil (On your app location) is the mountain top at almost 4000ft high ?..which explains the cold temperature shown for July. its around minus 6C up there today and is the mountain top to the south of the Ballachulish Bridge. Its always far warmer at ground level.
Heres hoping for a better summer though

Made it out today, just 45 mins, but still better than going home without anything, recovery wasnt the easiest but all in all a successful trip. Look forward to coming back up this way in the summer!

Haha that explains the low temperature in July I'd never looked where exactly the location was the app just picks up the closest weather station to where you are at the time I never expected it to be the top of a mountain
But to be honest it didn't feel much warmer at sea level we picked up a mooring just under the bridge to port and had an excellent meal in the hotel

Many Scottish lochs are stunningly beautiful. Are there any restrictions on using them or is it just a question of finding a launch site and not upsetting the locals?

Sea lochs
Essentially all sea lochs are just the sea - and so open to all. As with other areas of the sea there can be local speed restrictions / exclusion zones etc, the most notable being around the Clyde dockyards. Check the Notices to Mariners.
Loch Lomond
Your boat needs to be registered and there are speed restrictions - check the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park Authority webite for details
Loch Ken
Your boat needs to be registered
Loch Ness & other lochs on Caledonian Canal
Your can use the lochs FOC, but will need a license to use the canal sections
Loch Awe
I'm not sure
Loch Tay
No registration required?
Loch Earn
No registration required?
Other inland lochs
Unless you have a very small SIB, or are doing something specific like dinghy rescue cover most of the other freshwater lochs aren't going to be particularly suitable. There is no automatic right to roam with a motor (like there is if you are rowing or paddling!).

Thanks for that info.
I only have a small RIB and don't go particularly fast. I'd be using the lochs for sightseeing only. I guess if they have somewhere to launch I should be okay.

Sorry to revive my old thread, have a pub session to plan this tonight but thought i'd try my luck on here, I didn't manage to scout any wild camping locations when i went up in February, heading back at the end of September with a few friends. Anyone willing to give up some decent wild camping spots, ideally somewhere sheltered where i can anchor the boat for the week, and we'll be out of the way? All responsible campers, no trace left etc, more wilderness the better :-). Ideally somewhere we can launch and head to the "camping spot", done this on Lomond a few times, and quite a few on the Solway coast and stopped on some sheltered beaches for the week, just looking for somewhere new, Oban/Glencoe area ish is probably furthest to travel.
Cheers!!
