West Sussex powerboat training

I'm in two minds as to whether to do this, but I'm over in the UK next month and might think about doing the PB 1 & 2 courses because so far it's been entirely self-taught with input from a couple of people I know and of course you knowledgeable folks on here, but I am conscious that I could be picking up some bad habits

Does anybody have any recommendations for places close-ish to Worthing (say within half an hour or so in the car) - I guess Shoreham or Brighton are likely locations. Found a couple on Google but just wonder if anybody on here knows of any good places I should check out please?

Cheaper would be good, there seems to be a variation in prices from £110 to £250 just on a quick inspection!

Thanks

Stephen

Don't think there is any need for you to do PB1, just go straight into PB2.

PM Jimbo, sure he'll sort you out. It'll be in Portsmouth though which is on the limit of your 1/2 hr.

Nasher.

Brighton doesn't offer much variety of opportunities and challenges for powerboat training. There's not much here apart from the marina.

Chichester Harbour is a great place though, or anywhere further west into the Solent will give you some of the best training areas. You could get to Southampton in no more than 90 minutes, which is a bit longer than you said you wanted, but not really a big deal.

John

PS Let us know when you're coming and we can organise a RIBnet beer meet over this way!

Slightly off topic, but...........

You'll be around for the Solent Ribnuters BBQ/pub meet/silly shirt/grass skirt comp on July 10th.
You would be most welcome if you want to join us. Its about 1 hr from Worthing (along fully tarmaced roads).
Maybe if you resort to using a solent training school, you could be in the area.

Come along and meet some of us who are used to the sun going round to the south.

Seeing as no one has said this and you may already know..........

Look at the RYA web site http://www.rya.org.uk/ for tuition.

The RYA regulate the courses and qualifications here and their site is the first place to look for schools.

I believe Shoreham Yacht Club do powerboat courses - at least they did and trained some of our guys.

You could ask the question on here:

http://www.pontoontalk.co.uk/forums/

Most of the peeps are based in Littlehampton so may have a better local knowledge.

I did, but my holiday plans suffered some "significant tribulations" so I didn't end up doing half the things I had intended to... I did go for a wander around Brighton marina one day once things had settled and spoke to a bloke there about it, though by that time there wasn't time to arrange anything and I had already spent far too much money anyway

I did manage to stock up with lots of bits I needed though! I think the security folks at the airport probably decided I had some sort of fetish with rubber and stainless steel and it was better not to ask

Oh well there is always next year, I don't expect too many folks off RIBnet will stray into my neck of the woods before that
