Weymouth Harbour - no more 30 mins free visitors mooring

Popped into Weymouth over the weekend to grab an ice cream and a quick drink on the way past only to find out they have now cancelled their previous 30 mins free visitors mooring policy.

They wanted £8.50 for a short stay (up to 4 hours but only wanted 25 mins) so I told them not to worry.

Real shame as it meant the local businesses lost out. I know things have gone downhill now they have lost the money from the cross channel ferries but not sure it's the best way to go about it!

Would have paid a couple of quid for half an hour but they don't do it.

So many local authorities/organisations are ridiculously short sighted in this respect, they really don't get it. Welcome people with open arms and free or token parking/mooring and you will reap the rewards in the bigger picture.

Contrast this with the topic I posted last week - free SIBing on the Dart...

Getting common, on a related topic. The Tall Ships are visiting Sunderland (my home town) in July. I thought it would be good fun yo take the RIB up to spectator.

The only convenient slipways is at the Sunderland Marina. They ONLY issue annual passes at £125. No other options available.

They said I could take one of the eight visitors berths. Minimum period one week at £190!!.

Some places just don't want visitors.

If we're "naming and shaming"
Craobh Haven.....two hours for lunch £10 and the council ran one in Oban are wanting £12. I emailed them for clarification on this and was simply ignored.

This is simple, I won't be back.

I found this out couple of weeks ago, radioed in as usual to request a half hour on the bridge waiting pontoon only to be told “we no longer offer the free half hour” like you just wanted a drink and some chips, was offered a spot for £8.50. So I didn’t bother.
