Weymouth Olympics

Spent an afternoon being stalked by the police at Weymouth, We tested a new police rib for South Wales Police. We had the meanest rib on the water and the poise stopped us every mile or so to take a look it took 3 hour to do a 1 hour sea trial !
We have at least 110 Ribcrafts at Weymouth as the police have a massive fleet of solent rib charter boats there

Looks very cool!

Can I ask what Weymouth is like at present - ie how chaotic? We have a berth booked for Fri and Sat nights, and currently a launch on Friday and recovery on Sunday; the plan is to go out to the "viewing area" anchorages to watch the racing. Or is towing the rib into Weymouth and parking the car going to be such a pain that we'd be better off launching at Poole or somewhere and going in by sea?
Thanks!

It launched this morning off our slipway and is currently morred on our main pontoon. I assume their going to use it as part of the Cardiff river shutdown during the football matches.

Nice looking boat

I saw 30 odd of the police fleet launching at lymington weekend before last - they let me launch before a bunch of them which was kind. A very impressive sight as they flew around hurst at a real clip. The tide was marginal for launching so they were only just getting in off their roller trailers with a bit of encouragement by jolting the tow 4x4 forwards. Saw a dory launching same time trying to pull the same trick - left his OB leg down - crunch......

Re Weymouth
It's a bit quiet down there as they seem to have done a good job of putting people of going there.
Pre book 2 days before your trip the form is on the Weymouth harbourmaster site pm me if you have problems
£20 launch £10 for trailer

The 30 ribs were ribcrafts sign written up and de badged

Yes we delivered the rib yesterday to police great fun Razzing around Cardiff bay at mental speeds all in days work !

OK, so doesn't sound too bad then - thanks for the info!

Yes, £100/night to moor the rib (5.8m)(thanks W&PDC) was a bit off putting to start with, believe they've halved it now for lack of takers - never mind the hotel rates, etc.... Oh well, probably the only time I'll go to the Olympic sailing....

I don't know about mooring rates but give dean and reddyhoff a call at Weymouth to compare prices it is normally about 30 per night

I was in the harbour office an a Australian lady cam in to pay for her berth ant they took £170 from her do a 35 foot boat for 1 night she was shocked so was I !
The hotels are not full as people held off for the big bucks that did not come
There is a special park and ride car park for at least 500 cars that has a maximum of 10 cars in it !
Sailing is not really a spectator sport
On saying that the tv coverage has been good..
