Whale Skin Rib!!??
Apparently a fisherman has recently made some rib tubes out of the skin of a whale???!! This guy skinned the beast (which he claims he found dead) in several sections and managed to link and cure the skin into a flexible condition by using lanolin. He then used a chemical base glue much like superglue to weld the strips. The hull is a 5m Avon base and he says he can get the tubes reasonably pressured - but he says has not tested the boat in sunlight yet as he is worried about over - pressure.
I am stunned - apparently Greenpeace are already up in arms and animal liberation types are threatening to sink the boat if they can find it. Seems all a bit extreme to me!
