What hull is this?

I bought a fab new (to me) RIB last year which through a bit of internet detective work I have narrowed down to being possibly a tornado 5.8m. She was built back in 1998, is 6m long with an underfloor tank (unused) and has a deep v shaped transom and nice raked bow lines much like the RIBS on their Norwegian web page. Great open sea boat!

I am in the proces of coding the RIB and need hull plans (if available) and also I'm about to fit 2 twin jockey seats and need the hull and floor plate thickness to best guage the fixing method.

Can anyone identify this as one of their RIBS? If it is can you help with hull plans and thicknesses?

Your help is much appreciated, Stevie

Stevie, any chance of a photo or two of the console to help identify it? in the meantime I would rip those fin off the engine, you won't need them on that set up. Was she previously a dive boat?

Pete,

Here are a couple of console photos.

The fins were on the engine when I bought it. I thought the were supposed to improve take off acceleration and improve fuel consumption so I just left them on. Don't they?

Stevie, thats an old BMW console, which Barnet Marine now sell as well.

I think you are right, certainly looks like a Tornado and an odd one with hyperlon tubes rather than plastic stuff. You could try e mailing Barnet Marine the photos and asking for the details, or try Tornado up in the Hull area. Old Diver Magazines should give the address (not the new Dive Mag rubbish).

The fins well yes if you have a really heavily laden dive boat with a small engine they will help, but its a cure to a problem rather than getting rid of the problem by carrying fewer fat arsed divers and balancing the boat correctly (eg weight belts up the sharp end) but you know that. Nowadays I only take 4 or 5 divers in my rib and a similar number in the club boat that way peeps have a bit of space and comfort, needed if we are out at sea all day.

Looks like a Northcraft Seasport to me, but the pics aren't very clear.

The BWM console was apparently 'derived' from a Northcraft one.

I think I might second the Northcraft suggestion for 2 reasons.

1) Just been down there to pick up a new console. Before I opted for it John at N'craft sent me up some pics to help me decide, and they look v. similar to that one.

2) While I was there I saw a mould in the yard for a high sheer bow 5.8m boat which was the first thing that went through my mind when I saw your first set of pics.

My boat is a 1994, and before I bought it a couple of years ago I phoned John on the off-chance that he might remember it and pass on any useful info. He was able to identify it straight off from the photos, so might be able to do the same here??

Agreed .. I had one .. bad chine walker and I had to get the transom drop raised, probably due to the 135 I had on it and it took in water at rest
