I used Owatrol Marine Strip to take several years worth of antifoul off my rib. It's good stuff, works best if you apply a thick coat, scrape off what you can with a tungsten carbide scraper (round the corners off first to prevent it gouging) and then pressure wash the hull. We found that it softens the paint as well as making it soluble, so pressure washing actually has quite a big impact. It takes so much longer than you'd think though, I thought it would be a weekend job, ended up taking weeks.

I had surprising success with the citrus strippers here in the USA, not sure what you have over there. It might have taken a bit more goo but I had enough of nasty chemicals.

don't forget the gelcot was probably keyed/sanded to get the paint to stay put. you'll get it back shiny but you'll be using the polisher and 600 grade for a while

Thanks for the info, was looking at the stuff from tool station, might give that a go, the small patches that the paint has come off looks like the hull has not been sanded, so may be in luck , cheers zip

Hi, I wish, no the boat was hand painted by the sea cadets I have been told, in bright orange as it must have been used as a safety boat, will try to get some pics up
