What's my Osprey?
Hi,
I have just taken on a slightly tatty Osprey with the serial No. K42, Date of Manufacture 2/12/94.
Its about 4.8m long, does anyone know what model it is and if it's a standard or long shaft?
Thanks for your help.

It will probably be at least long shaft but may have been built up for extra long; can't tell without a picture!
4.8 seems a little small, does it have a grp-nose, or do the tubes go all the way around?

Hi, thanks.
It doesn't have the hard nose. I'll try and put a picture up.
It had an old mariner 40 ELO on it.
The engine number was 6E9 L 452029 - I guess the L means its a long shaft?

Ok well that pretty much narrows it down to a Viper assuming 1994 is correct. Someone with more knowledge about Mariners from that period I'm sure can tell you for certain but I agree, assuming the shaft length is right for the boat then that would indicate it to be a long shaft transom now, regardless of what it came out the factory as.
Seeing as it has a soft nose, unless it isn't an Osprey then it should be at least 5.2 metres I reckon..

Not a Viper.
Osprey made a 16-footer, back in the early '90s - it's likely to be one of these.
The motor is mid '80s if the hood is original.

Possibly a Merlin. Pete7 would know for sure, think he had one back in the day.

I think the Merlin had a hard nose.
Dai Manning had one of the 16-footers a couple of years ago.

Was the Kestrel not the little hard nosed boat or am I mixing the two up?
Edit: yep, have 'em mixed up, Kestral was the soft nosed boat about 4.6m long

Agreed not a viper, Merlins have a hard nose so not one of those. Other than that I'm not sure; the Osprey 18 had a hard nose too and I don't think the 5.15 existed?
