5.4 Refurb progress

Well, having started the thread and posed the question back in the summer I've finally got around to commencing the refurb. To be honest, it's more of a tidy up than a refurb (Colcreate and Alan did re-furbs!) but mine is in reasonable condition to start with...

Nevertheless:

Remove engine
Strip and clean carbs, new seals, strip oil pump, new seals, new impellor, flush oil system, change gear oil, etc, etc.
Remove console
Complete rewire
Flocoat deck
Flip hull, polish and fix any previously unseen blemishes
Restore brakes to trailer (contentious, I know)
New seat backs
New grab handles, paddle pouches, etc - thanks to all who have dug out bits and bobs - you know who you are!
Clean tubes

etc

etc.

This will be a slow burn guys so bear with me!

Only took an hour to get this little beggar off with a drill, chisel and lump hammer! I think I'll buy a new Yamaha engine bolt lock when I remount the engine because it was a stubborn little devil....

Started stripping the console today and paid a visit to Quayside and Leisure with the old red seat backs, together with the two black seats which were showing signs of wear.

Unbelievably, Luis proceeded to show me that he had EXACTLY the right fabric in stock because 15 years ago he'd won the job of supplying the original upholstery for the type of console on my rib which was then shipped to South Wales and installed on 5.4 Navy Sea Riders by Avon. Result!

A load of matlow muck revealed!

Impressed that there was absolutely no rust on the staples on the underside of the original seats after a decade in use.

Sweet

Well, after sorting out quite a few chips and blemishes on the hull, filling and fairing, it's miraculous what three coats of paint does. Final flatting back and polishing tomorrow before waxing and inverting to commence work on the deck.

Well pleased.

Holiday; yeah right! In between the leader of the opposition's list of jobs I managed to get over to Aquafax in Middlewich this afternoon to get all the electrical bits and pieces plus a few other odds 'n' sods; battery switch, tinned cable, connectors, Sikaflex, some resin, glass matting, etc, etc.

Received the Icom M505 back at the end of last week. Sent it back to them a few weeks ago because although the radio transmitted and received, the display was cooked (which I knew when I bought the RIB). Chuffed that they've been able to sort it which will help keep the originality of the boat.

I'll hopefully crack on with re-wiring/assembling the console tomorrow.

Shiny bits installed

Well, it's been a few days and in case you thought I was slacking, here's some evidence to the contrary!

The shiny bits that Nugent kindly sorted for me are now installed, A frame rewired, nav lights fitted, antenna fitted, cable run sorted, anti-slip completed, hydraulic helm fitted (but not yet connected up) vibration plate fitted, stainless polished and new upholstery bolted in place

By the end of this week I'm hoping to have the console bolted back in position, the steering, radio, lights and all electrics connected and the engine remounted and all tickety boo.

Oh dear. Something seriously Freudian going on here; I meant to type 'transom plate'!
