Engine back on and running up to temp on premix.....





Carbs stripped and serviced, new plugs, impellor, gearbox and PTT oil replaced, minor corrosion on starter motor cover sorted, all re-assembled, greased, lubricated and anti-corrosion sprayed.

Many thanks due to Paul at Outboard and Marine in Liverpool. Ex RN and all-round top bloke.

Flip hull, polish and fix any previously unseen blemishes Done - a lot more work here than initially envisaged but worth it.
Restore brakes to trailer (contentious, I know) Done
New seat backs Done
New grab handles, paddle pouches, etc Being sorted by SIT in Leyland
Clean tubes Final job when SIT have done their work.

Collected the boat from Chris at SIT yesterday and aquaplaned back 30 miles down the M6 before arriving home and hosing off all the accumulated road grime.

Chris has put the new handles and paddle pockets on, serviced the valves, pressure tested and put a couple of ever-so-cunning extra davit lift 'patches' on to cover the slightly abraded area near the bow where the anchor warp had chafed. Top Job Chris, thank you.

All that remains to be done this coming week is to refurbish the Barrus 'Nato' fuel tanks, attach the hydraulic steering pipes to the helm, fill with fluid (spend a few hours trying to purge the air from it), tidy up the wiring, attach an Aldis Lamp (or similar!) and then go find some water for a shakedown blast.











Then it'll be some chillin' in the workshop, takin' it easy sandin', varnishin' and generally restorin' the original wooden paddles, with a 'bit a Bob' oooozin' outa da sound system, dreamin' of hot summer days to come

I took my SR down to see Chris/ Henshaws in Wincanton for some Toob lurrve.. and these are the results. They really lack storage space for longer runs so had these made.. Two Largish removable Saddle bags on the inner One smaller one by drivers arm. Oar and retainers and a special Hypalon removable bag behind the seat. semi rigid so holds its shape

I'm really chuffed with the results and looking forward to getting it airborne/ i mean going out for a gentle cruise!!

Yes, certainly will. Hoping to be able to make the MacMillan Isle of Wight trip but can't commit yet due to work potentially getting in the way!

Looking at your new bags has just reminded me; I left SIT in a hurry (it was lashing with rain!) and have completely forgotten the new fire extinguisher pocket he's made for me to go on the back of the console seat. Doh!

Oh no really? aaagh.. just a thought. did you replace the old fire ex holder and still have the old one as i know we needed one for the Mcmillan SR as that was missing unless they have one already!

I used the old 'innards', framework, etc and had new hypalon attached to it so I don't have anything left of the old one, sorry.

Inching towards the finishing line now....

Two new 43 litre black fuel tanks collected yesterday from Mark at MES Marine in Queensferry, new plywood floor cut, retaining lugs fabricated, all epoxied and ready for fitting as soon as the stainless cargo straps get delivered. Grrrr. Anyway, 80 odd litres should be enough to get me around Anglesey or IOW (with a couple of spare cans just in case!) and if it's a tad arse heavy when they're full I'll just have to trim accordingly!

In the meantime, collected new fire extinguisher pocket from SIT and fitted today. Looks good with the gleaming, freshly varnished wood.

Tomorrow will be spent cutting black tubing to length and attaching to the lifelines.
