What's this for?

Been bugging me since we bought the boat , what is this white screw thing for?

Logic would suggest it's for draining water from inside the hull, but why would water be in there in the first place?!

Am I missing something?

Yeah draining hull if needed. Water can get in funny places. Also good for telling you you don’t have water in there!

Not knowing what boat make or model we are discussing...Anchor lockers are always wet lockers and need to drain downhill.

What happens when you remove the plug? Is there water present? You could use a water hose to figure out where it drains from.

Cheers Peter, it's a Europa 3.8m R Sport. Funnily enough I've had a niggling worry that the anchor locker DOESN'T drain! There's been a couple of times where we've had to empty it with buckets!!

What you say makes sense though...

Nothing has ever drained out of it - apart from the time the boat got hit by a side swell and took on a huge amount of water - and then i realised I'd left it unscrewed!!

I suppose bottom line is it doesnt matter as long as I check it occasionally...
